Surgical Eyes is closing, or almost

2004-04-14 09:08:50 AM
Is going to a 'Fee for Service' format. I'm sure most of you got the mail.
In excluding me, for reasons I still do not understand, they didn't take me
off of their spam list.
They are dying, and that's unfortunate. This is what happens when a non
profit tries to become a business, and alienates it's customers.
It's over. And if they don't get enough money, they'll close the doors 30
April.
I'm headed over to Paypal now to send them 10 bucks. Last time, they sent
it back to me, I'm sure, purely out of ignorant spite, with someone who they
should have no beef with. If they TRULY want to stay alive, I'll help in my
own small way. Because in the sum of things, they have helped a whole lot
of people - and - to quote myself, nobody ever got hurt by reading SE, and
avoiding refractive surgery.

As one who has probably logged more hours on SE than almost anybody, I do
feel a certain sense of loss for those who had come to depend on SE for
their daily news. However, I am sure that someone or something will fill
the void.

Something is already available to fill the void.
For factual information about LASIK in a bulletin board format and
without all the clubhouse politics, I recommend the BBS operated by
Gerald Horn, MD at www.usaeyes.org/bbs/bbs.html and the BBS
operated by William Trattler, MD at
www.complicatedeyes.org/bbs.htm.
For nonsense, politics, posturing, misinformation, rhetoric, and
entertainment value, you have the BBS operated by Ken Minarik, OD at
www.doctormyeye.com/bulletinboard/index.php.
For a combination of all that is provided at all of the above, stay
right where you are at the alt.lasik-eyes newsgroup.

Re:Surgical Eyes is closing, or almost

They sent back your $10? Why?
Fee for service? Oh brother. That's ridiculous. What will happen
there is a handful of nuts will pay for the service, then the the site
will disappear anyway with the $$$. They are obviously trying to
cash in on the last few coins they can squeeze out of people.

They shot themselves in the foot and blamed it on lasik.
They have no one to blame but themselves. By that I mean, the
administation and the handful of loonies. Who in their right mind
would support that circus?

Glenn, I'm starting to actually like you. Please say something
obnoxious to me again in the near future so I might return to that
"controlled loathing" stage.
I will accept your "endorsement" as keeper of the keys to the
insurgency.
I hope I can continue to entertain and irritate you on a regular
basis.

Glad to be of assistance, DrM.
When I see your website I think of a story I heard long ago when I
owned an advertising agency. Nielsen was really the primary
television rating company in the 1960's. They used a diary system
wherein selected "Nielsen Families" would write down what they were
watching and when. One of the Nielsen Families was a rather rich
Texan who would take out his revolver and shoot his television every
time President Lyndon Johnson came on. Apparently, they had business
dealings in the past.
For obvious reasons you would think that Nielsen would NOT want this
person as a part of the family, but they argued that the lunatic
market was as much a part of the television audience reality as any
other group.
Whenever I see something that I think really has no value I remember
that story. Every market, group, and individual is an important part
of the whole, even if you have an unbridled desire to take out a gun
and shoot it.

One thing is for certain, I shall never listen to Jackson Browne in the
same light again. If Jackson did a Google search, I wonder what he would
say if Ken Minarik's website came up instead? Doctor my eye..s....
